José Antonio Ponce Méndez was born in Mexico City, raised in Los Angeles and continued his music studies in NYC, NY. José has been singing since the age of seven. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education and Vocal Performance at the Bob Cole Conservatory of

California State Long Beach. In New York City, José studied under the late Vincenzo La Selva and has performed with the New York Grand Opera, Manhattan School of Music Baroque Camerata, and the Greenwich Chamber Society. His performances of compositions by Mozart, Massenet, Bellini and Donizetti truly shine thanks to his extensive study in Bel Canto. In 2024, after nearly twenty years in New York City, José made the move to “The City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection” to shake things up. José joined the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus, under the direction of Michael Semancik and later in the same year, its chamber group: Brotherly Love where he quickly became a prominent voice in both groups.
