The Philly POPS Festival Chorus is a 170-voice ensemble that performs with The Philly POPS under the direction of Jeff Kern, Associate Professor in the Vocal Division for The University of the Arts. The Philly POPS Festival Chorus began performing in 2002 and performs with the POPS orchestra during the annual Christmas concert series and Broadway series. The chorus has performed with many professional artists including Faith Prince, Capathia Jenkins, Ashley Brown, Lisa Howard, Lauren Kennedy, Rachel York, Alice Ripley, Ann Hampton Callaway, and The von Trapp Family Children. The Festival Chorus is an auditioned, volunteer organization composed of singers ranging from high school students to retired professionals.

The Philly POPS Festival Chorus performs each season with the Philly POPS Orchestra, under the amazing leadership of David Charles Abell. The Chorus is having auditions for the upcoming season which will include 10 performances of the POPS Christmas Spectacular (December 3 – 17) and Sondheim Celebration (April 21-23, 2023). In addition, we will perform the Memorial Day Weekend Tribute at the Mann Center on May 27, 2023.
You are invited to audition for this special choral organization.
The Philly POPS Festival Chorus is an ALL-VOLUNTEER 170-voice chorus that performs with The Philly POPS under the direction of Jeff Kern, Associate Professor in the Vocal Division for The University of the Arts. Founded in 2002, the Festival Chorus performs with the Philly POPS orchestra in the annual Christmas Spectacular as well as some subscription series throughout the year. The Chorus has performed with many professional artists including Faith Prince, Capathia Jenkins, Ashley Brown, Lisa Howard, Lauren Kennedy, Rachel York, Alice Ripley, Ann Hampton Calloway, Liz Calloway, Lisa Vroman, Mandy Gonzalez, the Von Trapp Family Singers, as well as many others.
Please understand that you do not have to commit to the entire season. You can choose each program on an individual basis or decide to commit to the entire season. It is your decision.
Auditions will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022, from 6:00PM to 10:00PM at the Boys Choir Rehearsal Facility at 1336 Spring Garden Street.
Requirements for the Audition:
Please prepare a minimum of 16 measures of any song, in any style. You must have a copy of the music for the accompanist. PLEASE DO NOT SING THE SONG A CAPPELLA. All auditionees must have prior choral experience. Also, all auditionees must demonstrate a reasonable skill of sight reading.
All rehearsals will be held at the Boys Choirs Rehearsal Space at 1336 Spring Garden Street, on Mondays from 7:00PM – 10:00PM. Festival Chorus Rehearsals will begin on Monday, October 10, 2022.
